About

Joint orchestras of Sinfonietta Cracovia and the Krakow Philharmonic will perform symphony masterpieces of the late Romantic period. The classical concert formula (with Brahms’ virtuoso Double concerto and one of the most joyous symphonies written by Dvořák) will be accompanied with a surprising overture, namely Andante for Strings by American composer Ruth Crawford Seeger who belongs to the “ultramodernist” movement.

Toby Thatcher is an Australian-British conductor of the young generation. Toby is the artistic director of an innovative project – the Zeitgeist multimedia gallery, as well as founder and artistic director of the Nineteenth Circle, the project showing the culture of the 19th century from the perspective of the synthesis of arts. He is also the assistant conductor of Orchestre National d'Île-de-France. Toby collaborated with numerous ensembles across the world, including Orchestre National de France, hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt, Ensemble Modern, Croatian Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Korean Symphony Orchestra, Panon Philharmonic, Riot Ensemble, Auckland Philharmonia and Queensland Symphony Orkiestra. His performance in Krakow will be his Polish debut.

Solo parts of the concert will feature two young musicians: violinist Jakub Staszel (b. 2003) and cellist Michał Balas (b. 2002), whose achievements in instrumental competitions and rapidly developing careers promise a youthful interpretation of the Romantic programme.
