About
Sinfonietta Cracovia will ring in the New Year with French and American music, full of finesse, sublime harmony, and surprising contrasts. On the stage of the Krakow Philharmonic, the Viennese waltzes and polkas that traditionally fill the concert programs of the world's greatest concert halls in January will be replaced by, among others, the impressionist masterpieces of C. Debussy, with their characteristic, lush sound of string instruments, enriched with the subtle sounds of the harp.
In the set of pieces prepared for this special evening, the Suite Pelléas et Mélisande deserves special attention. The composition is thematically related to Maurice Maeterlinck's drama, popular at the end of the 19th century, which deals with the love-filled and conflicted relationship between the title characters. The works of American “classics” such as A. Copland and Ch. Ives will also be presented in a similar, reflective manner, encouraging philosophical searches for the meaning of existence thanks to their deeper meanings.
During the concert, Sinfonietta Cracovia will also provide the audience with a dose of invigorating energy needed to start the New Year off right. The trance-like Shaker Loops by the famous minimalist J. Adams is undoubtedly filled with it.
The orchestra will be conducted by the renowned British conductor Lee Reynolds, who is returning to Krakow.
