About

Three perspectives of contemporary composers on the role of art in the world around us form a common narrative about the need for order, beauty, and meaning. These ideas form the essence of the program for the next concert in the Sinfonietta Nova series, which brings together different aesthetics and concepts of artists, intertwined by a common desire to discover new dimensions of music.

The highlight of the concert will be Arvo Pärt's Berlin Mass. This work, which is the quintessence of his “tintinnabuli” style, is one of the most important achievements of sacred music of the late 20th century. In it, Pärt combines ascetic simplicity with deep spiritual content, creating a sublime sound space conducive to inner contemplation.

Against this backdrop, Zygmunt Krauze, the doyen of the Polish avant-garde, represents a slightly different approach to sound. In his String Trio, he develops the concept of “unistic music” in which time and space merge into a uniform, in this case ornamental, pulsating structure. Like Pärt, Krauze strives for order, but achieves it through structural thinking about form rather than through the reduction of means or techniques.

Levente Gyöngyösi, a Hungarian composer of the middle generation, in his Piccolo Concerto, performed for the first time in Poland, engages in a dialogue with the concert form deeply rooted in musical tradition. In contrast to Pärt's introspection and Krauze's formal discipline, Gyöngyösi focuses on virtuoso gestures and color. By entrusting the piccolo with the role of soloist, he brings out an unexpected richness of expression and color from the instrument.
