About
A year full of unforgettable artistic events. Performances ranging from Kraków, through Europe’s largest cities, all the way to New York. Renowned festivals, famous stages, and finally intimate concert halls offering listeners the intimacy of experiencing music in an almost home-like atmosphere. After such eventful recent months, Sinfonietta Cracovia invites you to the season finale featuring the outstanding conductor Andreas Ottensamer on June 11 at 7:30 p.m. at the Krakow Philharmonic.
The concert from the Stars with Sinfonietta series will open with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s early Divertimento in F major, K. 138. This piece, full of subtle charm and lightness, will serve as an introduction to the presentation of subsequent, important works that have left a lasting mark on the history of 20th-century music. One of them will be Sándor Veress’s Hommage à Paul Klee, in which the orchestra will be accompanied by the Książek Piano Duo. In this composition, classical order gives way to bold reflections on the phenomenon of form and color. The main impetus for its creation was, in fact, the fascinating dialogue between the world of sound and the visual arts. The next item on the program will be Witold Lutosławski’s String Overture. Although rooted in the neoclassical style, the work already foreshadows the composer’s later avant-garde explorations and the birth of his unique musical language. The concert will conclude with Béla Bartók’s Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta. This is one of the most famous works of 20th-century modernism, captivating with its monumental structure, with its axis marked by a slow, almost metaphysical Adagio. The entire work is imbued with the composer’s characteristic harmony, based on modality and folk scales set within a modern framework.
